Scheduled news suddenly moves the financial markets, sometimes unexpectedly! This sudden move can really "mess up" your trade if you do not expect the announcement. So, there is NO EXCUSE, because the news is scheduled and the schedule is available from multiple sources way in advance! There are roughly 50 scheduled news events every month. Some are weekly and some are quarterly and one is on a really weird schedule. Twenty + events are scheduled at 5:30 AM Pacific. Fifteen are announced at 7:00 AM Pacific and remainder are at differing times during the day. The two biggest market moving events are the monthly Jobs Report, which is announced on the 1st Friday of each month and the FOMC Rate Announcement, which is on that really, really weird schedule. Some other news announcements involve various economic reporting that various sources maintain cognizance and clarity. Some are boards of governors while others are Government agencies! For example, the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Department of Labor. Reports like housing permits filed, housing starts and new houses sold are monthly reports that traders hang on salivating for the news release. The Consumer Price Index [CPI] is another report. Consumer sentiment is also reported every month.
I still use Yahoo to provide me these reports. Every Monday morning, I look at this link to get a bird's eye view of scheduled reports to be released in the coming week? Why Monday? Because, generally, there is not usually scheduled news in the early morning. It may be beneficial for you to put these into a calendar you observe every week.
More gain [loss] may be made more rapidly during FOMC release than any other day during the year!
Suffice it to say: Scheduled Economic News sets the stage for the trader's life!
