Market Segments is broader than you think... or broader than I thought when I commenced to gather research to create this section. A financial market is a broad term, a term that must be embraced, dissected and analyzed by each "student' of the financial markets. The headlines consist of these terms: Capital Market: Stock Market, Bond Market; Money Market, Cash or Spot Market, Derivatives Markets, ForeX and the Interbank Market, Primary Markets vs. Secondary Markets, The OTC Market, Third and Fourth Markets. When you are ready for discussion on these various markets, visit above link.
But this section is devoted to the general concept of Stock Market Segments, those various categories that the industry has grouped the public companies into: Industrials, Utilities, Transports, Rails, Air, Semiconductors, Network, Retail, Cyclicals, Banks, Conglomerates, Consumer, Financial, Healthcare, Services, Technology. Those are just a few. The thought here is to acquaint you with the concept of segments. Now, it is up to you to scour the Net for answers of how various folks have segmented the existing nearly 10,000 public companies into groups. It is complex and that is why I left it along side the highway of past knowledge back in 2003. Complexity confuses! I am not saying that the futures industry is not complex. It is complex; however, it has 1/100th of moving parts than the stock market.
And, with futures, which "generally" lead stocks, there is a better sense of trend and far less politics... a more pure form of capitalism, if you will just imagine what I'm saying.
You must be in harmony with the primary trend of the market
if you ever hope to crack the market maze and find your way through the hall of mirrors.

Back in 2003, when I was still bogged down into stocks, a popular pastime was the analysis of market segments. At the time, we analyzed about 25 segments. Without me investing into new research to any great extent, I suspect it is pretty much the same today.
Markets are segmented into numerous sectors into as many categories as human imagination ma extends . . .
